how it all began —

Our work began in 2015, when the so-called refugee crisis broke out in Europe. We asked ourselves if we wanted to live in a Europe where the suffering of people fleeing was met by building fences.

We decided to take action ourselfs and began to do so by collecting donations in kind and sold our belongings on fleamarkets to raise money. After we had collected enough donations and additional money with further fundraising campaigns, we set off with a group towards the Balkan route in November 2015.

After we had collected enough donations and additional money with further fundraising campaigns, we set off with a group towards the Balkan route in November 2015.
The experiences we had on this trip affected us deeply. We saw people in a state of utter exhaustion, hungry and thirsty when they arrived. And the camps set up to host them were completely overcrowded. The majority was not cared for at all, or only very poorly in order to be driven further west. We used the donations to buy things like shoes, hygiene articles and food and provided the people with these and the clothes we had brought with us.

and many more —

What you see here is the core of our team, mostly based in Bremen. These people coordinate our projects. It’s us you’re are talking to when you get in contact!
Many, many more often lend a hand directly on site, work in the Kesha Niya Kitchen and are teachers for our tutoring project.
These volunteers are not always members of KUNE e.V. or do not hold a current position in the association. Nevertheless, they deserve our special thanks!
